What is the Armor of God?

What is the Armor of God?

By Andy “And their arm shall be my arm, and I will be their shield and their buckler; and I will gird up their loins, and they shall fight manfully for me; and their enemies shall be under their feet; and I will let fall the sword in their behalf, and by the fire of mine indignation will I preserve them.” Doctrine and Covenants 35:14 The Armor of God consists of six pieces; the Helmet of Salvation, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Belt of Truth, the Shield of Faith, the Sword of the Spirit,…Read more …
Why Does God Give Us Trials?

Why Does God Give Us Trials?

Our Heavenly Father doesn’t put trials in our lives because He hates us or to punish us.  He does it because He loves us.  Now, that might seem like a weird way to say I love you, but He just wants us to be able to learn and grow.   We came to this Earth to gain a body and to learn through our experience so that we could return to live with Him again someday.  Well, we all obviously have a physical body! So what it really comes down to now is…Read more …
What Did I Learn from General Conference?

What Did I Learn from General Conference?

Every six months, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meet in a General Conference to hear from modern-day apostles and prophets, as well as other church leaders.  The most recent conference was held on October 4th and 5th. We asked the youth at Small and Simple Truths what they learned at this most recent conference.  Here is what they said: Kaity While listening to General Conference I increased my knowledge about God's love for me. A few talks spoke specifically about God's love for us. But besides these, every…Read more …

What’s So Great About General Conference?

We asked the youth at Small and Simple Truths what they like most about General Conference.  Here are their responses.  Feel free to "Click to Tweet" your favorite!   Liz The typical primary kid answer to why I like General Conference would be because of the spirit I feel when I listen. The spirit that fills my whole home as the Prophets voice can be heard on a radio or TV in almost every room. But for me its not only the feeling I get or the things that I learn. Its the…Read more …
What is the priesthood?

What is the priesthood?

by Andy .Despite the belief of many who think the priesthood is a neighborhood where all the local priests live, that is not even close!  It is even better. Some might even say that it is the best thing ever! At least I sure think so. The priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name.  There are two types of priesthoods on the earth today - the Aaronic Priesthood and the Melchizedek Priesthood.  The Aaronic Priesthood was restored on the earth in 1829 by John the Baptist when he appeared to Joseph…Read more …
Three Things I Look for in Friends

Three Things I Look for in Friends

by Andy In my LDS seminary class (a religious class that I enroll in like a class at school), my teacher told us once that in our teenage years the two areas that influence us most are the media and our friends. That made me start to think a lot about who I was keeping company with and why I was surrounding myself with those people. Personally I thought that your family would influence you more than anything because those are the people that you share your home with, but as I thought…Read more …
What Rules Do I Follow in Dating?

What Rules Do I Follow in Dating?

By Andy My friend’s dad has a rule for my friend and I when it comes to dating. He calls it the “2-for-1 Rule”. It is where you can take a girl on a date twice, but you cannot take her on date number three until after you have taken another lucky young lady on a date. This may seem like a silly rule, but I am glad that I have it to follow. This rule is important because, as it says in my faith’s guide for youth called For the Strength of…Read more …
Why Do I Choose Not to Swear?

Why Do I Choose Not to Swear?

By Andy: It isn’t always easy to choose not to swear. Sometimes it feels like a curse more than it is a blessing. But I choose not to swear for one main reason, and that is because Heavenly Father has made it a commandment for me not to use profane language. Also because it is a poor habit to have and swearing sounds uneducated and unprofessional. Playing on a high school baseball team is not the best way to try and make good habits with language. The entire team knows my standards and…Read more …
