When did you last have a great time with your family? Was it yesterday, last week, possibly a month or maybe even a year ago? Believe me when I say this (even though it might not sound true at first), family members are the people in your life with whom you have the best times! Whether it’s playing sports with your sibling, finally beating one of your parents in something you’ve wanted to for so long, or even just a simple night together playing board games, there is no one better you could spend your time with.
I have a family of five people. There are my parents and three kids–all of whom are boys. Talk about a fun and competitive life! I am the 15-year old middle child with an older brother who is 19, and a younger brother who is 7. These guys drive me crazy. I’m always either constantly being asked to play every single game with my younger brother, or getting yelled at by my older brother for bugging, no matter what I may be doing.
Although I could spend hours talking about all the frustrating times I’ve had with these guys, it would be more enjoyable to talk for days about the fun times we have. My younger brother is always asking me to do something with him no matter where we are. Although every time he asks I say no at first, somehow that kid finds a way to get me to do something with him. The simple things I do with him like jumping on a trampoline or playing catch in the backyard are the moments that bring the most joy to me in my life.
The biggest example to me in my life is my older brother, Douglas. I have always looked up to him in all he has done. When he is in school, sports, or church callings I have wanted to be like him. Right now he has the very important church calling as a full-time missionary. He was called to serve in the Mexico, Mexico City Southeast mission. He has been gone for about a year and I’m just counting down the days until I can see him again. I know he is doing the right thing and I can’t wait until it is my turn to do the same.
Families are an essential part of God’s plan of happiness. I know that we are all given our families for a reason and that they can be the greatest blessing to us in our lives. Your family will always be there for you. They have loved you your whole life and they will continue to love you for the rest of your life. Always remember to take the time to be with your family and you will be blessed for it.
