A couple of weeks ago I was able to cheer at one of my school’s volleyball games. The gym was buzzing with students and athletes. We got in our lines to cheer and the game started. Bump, serve, spike. Bump, serve, spike. Bump, serve, spike.
Suddenly, my teammate nudged me and whispered in my ear, “Isn’t that Elder Holland?” I quickly turned around to see Elder Holland and his lovely wife scurrying up the bleachers to find their seats next to this family.
As people began to notice his presence, the atmosphere of the gym changed completely. A reverent excitement seemed to settle over the entire room. It’s not every day you get to see a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles! For a few minutes, the gym didn’t seem like just a gym, it was a holy place. I noticed how the LDS youth at my school came together. I felt like I was a part of the Armies of Helaman. For those who didn’t understand why we were all overjoyed, we were able to explain that he is an Apostle of God. We shared our testimonies of how Elder Holland has influenced each of our lives through his counsel and inspirational messages. The Holy Ghost touched our hearts and testified to us that he truly is called by God. The feeling he brought to that gym that day is something I will never forget. By the time my brother and I got home, Twitter was full of tweets and pictures. It was awesome!
As General Conference begins on September 26 with the Women’s Meeting and continues into the first week of October, we have the opportunity to be taught by our leaders. I have noticed that when I prepare myself for Conference through prayer, fasting and searching the scriptures, I can receive personal revelation for my life. It is a chance for us to listen and reevaluate our own lives and make a change! I would like to invite you to watch conference and receive the same blessings in your life. I testify that whether you are Mormon or not, you will hear something especially for you! How lucky are we to have General Conference and be taught by these incredible men and women. And Elder Holland, come visit again anytime! 😉
