The Importance of Education

With school starting up I feel like it would be appropriate to share my thoughts on the importance of getting a good education. Education is going to be one of those things in life that is going to stay with us forever. In a modern-day book of scripture called the Doctrine and Covenants we learn, “Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.”  Doctrine and Covenants 130:18.

good education will help to prepare us for any circumstance that we may stumble upon throughout our lives. Not only will it help us, but also those with whom we interact.  We will be better prepared teach our children and grandchildren.  It will also be valuable when it comes to making wise decisions for your family and knowing what the best options are.

You may have heard the saying, “You learn something new every day.” In most cases this statement is true. However, it would be better if the saying was, “You should learn something new every day”. It is very important to always be learning and expanding your knowledge.  That way your brain will be constantly active and you will be healthier.

It is also really important to do well in school because you will have more opportunities and more choices about what you want to do with your life. I know that school is a gift that we need to take advantage of and make sure we are doing everything we can in order to be successful.

You’re right, Stockton. Education is a gift, not a burden. Heavenly Father wants us to learn:
“… seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom, seek learning even by study and also by faith;” D&C 109:7
