One of my favorite hymns is “I Stand All Amazed.” To me, it has the most beautiful words paired with an amazing melody. It moves me to tears almost every time I sing it. Why do I love it so much? Because it is talking about Christ and what He did for me. Let’s just take a look at the first verse: “I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me, confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me. I tremble to know that for me he was crucified, that for me, a sinner, he suffered, he bled and died.” Jesus Christ, my loving, dear Savior, loved me enough to suffer for me. He bled, He suffered, He died, and He did it all for me. For me and you and him and her and us and we. Such love the Savior had for each of us. The first verse is just where it starts, the song only gets better from there.
“I marvel that he would descend from his throne divine. To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine.” Those two lines hit me hard every time I read, sing or hear them. Heavenly Father loves me enough to send His only begotten Son to save me. Jesus Christ loves me enough to give His life to save me. That, my friends, is love unimaginable. Why me? Why you? Why us? That’s what love is. God didn’t put us here to suffer. He’s going to be with us every step of the way. He didn’t send His Son just to die for the fun of it, and the Savior didn’t give His life for nothing. God did it and Jesus did it because they love us. How powerful is it to know that? They did all of this for us! This earth is for us, the Atonement is for us, the Holy Ghost is there to help us! These are gifts from God! He hasn’t forgotten us, and He never will!
This is what I love about this hymn. It isn’t just another song we sing on Sundays or in seminary. To me this song is so much more. I’m amazed that Jesus Christ loves me enough to die for me. He loved me enough to save my proud, rebellious soul, and yours, too. Heavenly Father loves me enough that He sacrificed His Son. Brothers and Sisters, this was all for us.
I would be lost without my Heavenly Father and my Savior. I’d be lost without the gift of the Holy Ghost. They lead me and walk beside me, and I am very grateful for that. I’m grateful to know that I am such a loved young woman. It is unbelievably amazing to know that.
Everything He did and does is for you. It’s for everyone. No one is meant to suffer or go their way alone. That’s why Jesus Christ gave His life, so we could return back to Him someday.
I stand all amazed that God and the Savior have that much love for me. It baffles me and even confuses me, but at the same time it doesn’t. I know God loves me, I know Jesus loves me. I know that I am a child of God and that the Godhead is with me every step of the way.
There is no need for me to fear the future, because they are right by my side. I’m not walking into darkness, but instead into light.
