Are you confident in yourself? Do you know your worth? Are you happy with who you are? The book No Doubt About It says “The way that we see ourselves, or our sense of identity affects everything we do. It affects the way we behave, the way we respond to uncertainty, the way we see others, the way we handle pressure and disappointment, the way we feel about ourselves and the way we make choices. In short, it determines how we live our lives. So the question we might all do well to ponder is not only who we are, but who we have always been.”
Among high school students today, many struggle with confidence and self-esteem issues. Frequently these doubts and insecurities lead to terribly negative activities such as cutting, depression, bullying, smoking, drinking, or eating disorders. Satan is very good at telling us that we are not good enough. That we are not cute enough. That we are not smart enough. That we are not thin enough. That we are not clever enough. That we are simply not enough. And that is completely and utterly false.
Satan wants us to feel insignificant. He tries to keep us from knowing our true individual worth. And often times he succeeds. One of my best childhood friends is recovering from self-harm and eating disorders. It has been a very long and hard road for her. She has sought the loving guidance of her friends, her family, and her Heavenly Father. As she continues to more clearly understand her divine destiny, the more immune she becomes to Satan’s power. We are children of God. We have a Heavenly Father who loves us, knows us, and wants us to return to him. We have a merciful Savior, Jesus Christ who died for us so that we could have the opportunity to repent of our sins. Noble and great. Virtuous and brave. Fearless and faithful. That is who you are and who you have always been.
The knowledge of your divine lineage carries a confidence that cannot be found in any other way. It is priceless. We can feel true happiness by understanding how genuinely special we are. We can feel true peace by understanding how much the Lord loves us. We can only deal with life’s questions and uncertainties by understanding who we are, who we were, and who we may become. Pray to your Heavenly Father and seek the spirit’s guidance to testify the truthfulness of your worth. I promise you that once you truly understand that you are a child of God, you will obtain undeniable confidence in yourself. You will begin to notice a change in your actions. You being to lift others up rather than trying to compete with them, because you will feel secure in your standing before the Lord.
I have a testimony of my identity and worth. I know who I am. Who I was. And who I can become. I love myself. I love my Lord. and I love my life. Life can be hard sometimes, but it’s supposed to be. That is how we learn, and grow closer to Jesus Christ. Stay strong and rely on Him, he knows what you are going through and how you feel. Do not ever hate yourself. Embrace your body, your personality, and your quirks. Heavenly Father has given them to you. Without those things, you wouldn’t be you. And you is pretty amazing. Be confident in who you are, know your worth, and be happy with who you are. Your Heavenly Father loves you more than you could ever comprehend.
