When I was a small kid, whenever I would pray for guidance from God, I would expect to see a huge change the next day or a big sign from God showing me the answer. I hoped for a miracle to show me the way, but I now realize that prayer is a lot more than just thanking God and asking Him for help. Prayer can either be a chore we do a few times a day, or a great experience to strengthen your testimony and become a better person, with a strong relation with the Savior.
Prayer is when we take a minute or two, to step out of our, stressful and busy lives here on earth, and reflect on what we have done, praise God for all He has helped us with, and ask for what we need. Life is full of confusion, hardships and joy, and it feels great to stand back, and recognize God’s hand in all of it.
When I pray my favorite part is when I thank God for everything. I think about all the good that has happened to me, and prayer allows me to see that if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t have any of it. It gives me a good feeling to know that Heavenly Father has my back.
Another important part of prayer is reflection. This is kind of left out when we are told what to do in a prayer. For me, this isn’t really part of the prayer. It’s when I look at what I have done and what I can do better. I also think that this is a good time to think about the prayer. This is a hard part of prayer for me. When I’m in bed I want to focus on sleeping, and trying to sleep as long as I possibly can. But I notice, that when I reflect on my life, I can fall to sleep twice as fast.
God has given all of us the ability to ask Him for whatever we need. If we are having a hard time with anything, we can kneel down and ask God for help. It’s easy to think that if we pray for it, it will happen. If we want help, we need to put in our part to make things better. I notice that when I pray for help, Heavenly Father helps me to find a solution, He doesn’t just make it happen.
Over the last couple of months, I have come to love prayer. Lately, I have had a lot of questions rousing in my mind about many thing. Now that I’m going into ninth grade, I have been thinking a lot about what is right, and what is wrong. I have been looking for my testimony, and what I stand up for, and believe in. I started to get excited for my nightly prayer, and looking forward to it. My testimony has grown so much because of powerful prayer. I think prayer is a very personal thing that we all need to discover, for ourselves, what it is really about, and what it means to us.
