What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Really All About?

by Whitney

One time my little three-year-old sister and I were watching the Disney movie, Tangled. When the classic Disney castle came on the screen she got really excited, pointed at the screen and said, “It’s the temple!” I smiled and told her that it was just a castle, and we watched the movie. That experience really made me think. I realized that although the castle on the screen may not be a temple, the temples are castles. Why? Because they are God’s house, and He is a king.

Every week the Young Women recite our theme, which begins like this:

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him.

I love this line, because it reminds me each week who I am.

God is our Heavenly Father and we are His children. This means that we are all are princes and princesses, destined to become kings and queens. God loves and cares about each and every one of us. He hears our prayers, and knows the desires of our hearts. He created this earth for us, His children. His ultimate goal is for us to make it back to Him. “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” (Moses 1:39).

Heavenly Father put us into families to support each other, and help one other to learn and grow. He sent prophets to this earth to guide us, and to teach us His gospel. He sent His Son to earth to die for us and take upon Him all the sins of the world, so that we can return to our Father in Heaven. People then rejected Christ and His apostles and God had to take His authority off the earth. In the year 1820 He appeared to Joseph Smith. Through Joseph Smith the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day was restored on April 6, 1830. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. When we pray to God, He hears us!

I know that I am a child of God. I love Him, and I know that He loves me. I have felt this love, and I know that it is stronger than anything we can comprehend. I know that we have a living Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, on the earth. I am so grateful for him and the guidance he gives to us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, that it is the word of God. I love this gospel with all my heart. It brings so much peace and happiness into my life.

God will always be there for you, if you are willing to let Him in.
