The last few weeks have been pretty hard on my family. Three weeks ago we learned my grandma has cancer. We didn’t know what kind or how strong the cancer was at first. I was really worried because this huge challenge had just come into my life and I didn’t really know what to do about it. I went to my best friend’s house that night and told her all about it and how scared I was for what was to come. The very first thing she said to me was trust in the Lord and everything will be okay. This really hit me. I knew I trusted in the Lord but the news had thrown me so off guard that I was just thinking about here and now not the eternal perspective. I went home that night and prayed with so much hope that my grandma would be okay. She went to the Huntsman Cancer Center that Friday to be tested to see what kind of cancer she had. It turned out to be ovarian cancer. With surgery and chemotherapy we have high hopes that everything will turn out well. I am so thankful to my Heavenly Father for helping my grandma and family during this hard time in our lives. He continued to help us through her surgery and now during her recovery time.
I know we all go through challenges that we don’t really understand why they are happening or how in the world we are going to overcome them. Thomas S. Monson said in the October 1993 General Conference “Whenever we feel inclined to feel burdened down with the blows of life’s fight, let us remember that others have passed the same way, have endured, and then have overcome.” I really like this quote because it reminds me that we are never alone in our burdens because we will always have a loving Savior who felt all our pain and will help us through all of life’s fights. He knows exactly what we are going through when everyone else doesn’t. He is our best friend and older brother and will always be there for us throughout all our lives.
In Doctrine and Covenants 105:19 it says “I have heard their prayers, and will accept their offering; and it is expedient in me they should be brought thus far for a trial of their faith.” I love this scripture because it is a constant reminder to me that all the challenges I go through are for a purpose. All of my challenges are to help me build my faith and become closer to my Father in Heaven. He has a plan for us and for us to meet our full potential we have to go through trials. Just like the scripture says He hears our prayers and our trials will be used as trials of our faith.
I know this gospel is true and I am truly blessed every day because of my faith and testimony. I love knowing that everything happens for a reason because He has a plan for us. I love my Savior and I am thankful every day for the atonement and for everything my Savior has done for me. Remember whatever you are going through our Savior went through too and He will always be there to help us throughout our trials.
