Thinking About Heaven

Thinking About Heaven

By: Stockton Recently, my older brother returned home from serving his 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.  Since he’s been home I've been  thinking about how a mission is similar to our earth life.  It was hard for our family to send him to Mexico City and have to go without spending time with him for so long. This is similar to how our Heavenly Father felt when he sent us to earth. Another interesting thing that comes to mind is how we are still able to…Read more …
Do I Serve A Mission?

Do I Serve A Mission?

By Jace/Photo credit: poetsandquants.com Recently, my cousin came home from his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  This has made me think a lot about my mission which is coming really soon.  It has shown me how scared I am about leaving for so long but it has also shown me how to trust in the Lord more.  I used to worry about where I was going to be sent because I wanted to go somewhere exciting. Now I realize that it doesn't matter where I go because that…Read more …
Three Ways to Change Your Conversations with God

Three Ways to Change Your Conversations with God

By Melody Last week I started my first week of school. It was a great week and a great start to my senior year! Nothing too horrible happened, but starting school is always a little bit stressful for everyone. Toward the end of the week, I noticed that as school started, I was a lot more diligent in my prayers. I started thinking about how many little things I prayed for each morning and I realized Heavenly Father has blessed me a lot. I wondered why my prayers felt so much more meaningful.…Read more …
Lessons I Learned on a Mountain

Lessons I Learned on a Mountain

By Tommy Four weeks ago, I left with my brother to go to Philmont Scout Ranch, the largest scout ranch in the world. We didn’t know the troop we were leaving with because they were part of my uncle's ward. The camp was two weeks long and we hiked 65 miles in total. It was hard, but it was also one of the best experiences of my life. My brother and I learned a lot of lessons I feel are essential to personal conversion. Lesson 1: Nature is awesome. I wish I spent more…Read more …
Video Games and the Spirit

Video Games and the Spirit

By Tyler Being 12 years old is quite an exciting time in life.  You are finally old enough to make some of your own decisions and, after years of waiting, you are considered old enough to play certain video games. But being able to play these games comes with more responsibility. I have learned you have to be able to control: 1. How long you play them, 2. The environment you play them in, and, most importantly, 3. Pay attention to how the games you play make you feel. Video games are great,…Read more …
Changed

Changed

By Rachel In June, I had the wonderful opportunity of going to Bolivia for a humanitarian trip.  There were 16 youth in our group and three leaders. We stayed for three weeks with only two, two-minute emails home and no other communication with our family or the world. It was pretty much a mini mission. Our main focus was to serve the people in a small village.  We began work on a daycare.  Many mothers in the town must work and they have very few options for childcare.  Our goal was to give them…Read more …
How to Get Spiritually Hyped

How to Get Spiritually Hyped

By Tommy For the first few months of Seminary (an elective religion class I can take during my school day) I was really bad at reading my scriptures I forgot all the time, and found myself about 60 chapters behind my teacher's reading schedule. Then, in February, I finished the Doctrine and Covenants  in a little over a month. During that month, I read my scriptures and said a prayer every morning. Doing this took less than 20 minutes, but made such a difference. I was so excited about the gospel that month. It made…Read more …
What I Should Have Said

What I Should Have Said

By Alex My ears twitched back, my mind cringed, my heart hammered, and my fists at my side lost color because they tightened so much. Sound dramatic? This was actually a normal day at school. I was standing in the lunch line when overheard two not-so-pleasant boys talk about a girl in the most carnal and foul way. Being raised with three older sisters I know that respecting woman is of paramount importance. I wanted to do nothing less than to pin him against a wall and tell him how wrong he was…Read more …
Finding Faith in Failure

Finding Faith in Failure

By Guest Blogger Emma We’ve all been down that path. You know, the one where we are feeling so down on ourselves because nothing seems to be going right. Everything seems to being going exactly opposite of what's planned and we can’t see anything but the negative. Sometimes we fail. That’s life. Often times when we’re not successful we look back and start throwing out the “Would-a, could-a, should-a’s.” We start asking ourselves what we could have or should have done better in order to succeed. Maybe you were cut at tryouts for…Read more …
3 Ways to Draw Closer to Christ

3 Ways to Draw Closer to Christ

By Whitney Life is crazy--I’m sure any high school student would agree. There is school, homework, sports, work, family, church things, and the list just goes on. There is one lesson that I believe God has been trying to teach me for a long time, and I think I am finally starting to get it. That lesson is to put God first, and everything else will work out. In Philippians 4:13 it says “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.” I know that with the help of our Savior we…Read more …
