We All Have Questions, God Has Answers

By Lincoln, Photo: lds.org In one week, LDS General Conference will be upon us. General Conference is a semi-annual event where the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints speak to the world. There are six sessions in total: four for everyone, one session for women, and one for men. In total, almost 50 talks are given, with topics ranging from marriage and family to stories about aviation and World War II. General Conference is one of my favorite occasions of the year. Hearing from the Prophet and other men…Read more …
What Did I Learn from General Conference?

What Did I Learn from General Conference?

Every six months, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meet in a General Conference to hear from modern-day apostles and prophets, as well as other church leaders.  The most recent conference was held on October 4th and 5th. We asked the youth at Small and Simple Truths what they learned at this most recent conference.  Here is what they said: Kaity While listening to General Conference I increased my knowledge about God's love for me. A few talks spoke specifically about God's love for us. But besides these, every…Read more …
What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Really All About?

What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Really All About?

by Whitney One time my little three-year-old sister and I were watching the Disney movie, Tangled. When the classic Disney castle came on the screen she got really excited, pointed at the screen and said, “It’s the temple!” I smiled and told her that it was just a castle, and we watched the movie. That experience really made me think. I realized that although the castle on the screen may not be a temple, the temples are castles. Why? Because they are God’s house, and He is a king. Every week the Young…Read more …
How Does Keeping the Commandments Protect Us?

How Does Keeping the Commandments Protect Us?

By Josh My grandfather served in the Navy when he was younger. He operated the sonar and radar on a submarine. When he was about to be discharged he had an opportunity to re-enlist and be on a new class of submarine, the USS Thresher. The Thresher was a nuclear submarine. It was quietest of its day and could also go the deepest. This would have been a great opportunity for my grandpa. However, when he was offered to go on the submarine he refused! He told them that he wanted to serve…Read more …
Why Do We Study the Scriptures?

Why Do We Study the Scriptures?

By Ambree When I turned 12 and started going to Young Women’s (a youth group that meets weekly at my church), I also tried reading the Book of Mormon because my leaders rewarded us if we did. I noticed that when I was reading the Book of Mormon I wasn’t really paying attention to the words and stories. My mind would wander off on different things, and this frustrated me. I didn’t know why we were supposed to read the Book of Mormon, because I felt like I wasn’t learning anything. I started…Read more …
Why Do I Choose Not to Smoke or Drink?

Why Do I Choose Not to Smoke or Drink?

By Ryan Anyone who has ever competed in sports could probably tell you that playing to the best of their abilities is almost impossible after eating multiple pieces of cake or pizza. I had this experience first-hand. A couple of years ago, I decided that I wanted to join my school’s track team. From the very beginning my coach told me that I would need to eat a lot healthier if I wanted to succeed and see improvement in my racing. At first, I followed my coach’s advice, and I continually saw improvement…Read more …
Why Does God Give Us Commandments?

Why Does God Give Us Commandments?

by Collin One universal rule of hiking is to stay on the trail. Last summer, I was on a hike with a few of my cousins in a forest in West Virginia. Just a few yards off the trail that we were hiking, was a large vine hanging from a tree, perfect for swinging on. The five of us took our turns riding the vine, and pushing each other back and forth, each of us trying to swing higher and farther than the person before. Eventually, a few other hikers walked up to…Read more …
Decisions are Easier When You Listen to The Lord

Decisions are Easier When You Listen to The Lord

by Kaity I am, and have always been, a very indecisive girl. I use to cry about choosing a Barbie Doll from the toy store because I couldn’t decide which one I wanted. As teenagers, we are faced with many important decisions in the next few years of our lives that can, and will affect our eternity. I have always struggled with making decisions, whether big like choosing a career or small like choosing a Barbie Doll. Thankfully a career or a Barbie are wonderful decisions to be faced with. However, there are…Read more …
Why do I Believe Joseph Smith was a Prophet?

Why do I Believe Joseph Smith was a Prophet?

by Clancey It was some time ago that I “just believed” in Joseph Smith. My whole life I had believed in him but didn’t know he was truly a prophet chosen by God. Then not too long ago, I had watched a movie about Joseph Smith. I also read the Testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith, which is just before the Book of Mormon. I prayed to God and asked if these things were true. My answer came, and it was yes. Who was Joseph Smith? He was a latter-day prophet of The Church…Read more …
Why Do I Choose to be Modest?

Why Do I Choose to be Modest?

By Rachel Being in high school, I am continually faced with the peer pressure of dressing immodestly. A couple of weeks ago, my mom and I went shopping for my first prom dress. I was very excited as most girls are. Prom is a night you feel like a princess.   As I was picking out a dress, I chose one that we could alter. We added sleeves and some fabric to make it less low cut. The alterations made it a little more expensive but it was worth it. The night of prom,…Read more …
