Called to Serve

Called to Serve

By Lincoln Photo Credit: fbclabelle.org Over the past months, I have been preparing to serve a mission for my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This means leaving my family, friends, school, and everything else behind for two years to share with complete strangers what I know to be true about Jesus Christ. When a missionary sends in their application, there are 418 different locations around the world where they can be sent.  They don't know where they are going, and don't really have a say in expressing any preference on…Read more …
My Christmas Shoes

My Christmas Shoes

By Ambree Since the beginning of December I have been thinking of ways I could make Christmas more memorable.  One of my seminary teachers said “ . . . the best gift to give the Savior is acts of service.” So I decided this Christmas I want to give the Savior the gift of service. A few days ago my friend and I decided to go get ice cream cones. As we stood in line talking about our day, we slowly moved up to the cashier who told us that the guy in front…Read more …
Why Your Love Can’t Wait

Why Your Love Can’t Wait

By Maddie I absolutely love Christmas time. It makes me so happy having so many opportunities to serve my friends and family, and even strangers. Every Christmas my family chooses someone that we think needs some love at Christmas time. Last year, we chose our Great Grandma Jackie. We decided to do the twelve days of Christmas for her, but she lived in Florida so we had to plan ahead, and ship the gifts to her. For each day we tried to pick something meaningful to send to her. Some of the days…Read more …
The Power of Service

The Power of Service

By Jentri (Photo Credit: lds.org) I like doing service for my elderly neighbor.  I help him with various different things. Some of the things I do for him are smaller than others, but he is always very appreciative of what I do-- whether it's something small or something big. I can always tell he is happy for the help. When I serve people, it not only helps me and makes me happy, but it also helps the person I am serving and also makes them happy. We all have had the opportunity to do service. All…Read more …
How Can I Serve?

How Can I Serve?

By Kayla Mosiah 2:17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God. As teenagers, we often don't have a lot of money to give others, but we do have time -- time to serve others. Service can be planned or spontaneous.  A couple months ago, some youth in my church got together and we went over to our neighbors and mowed, weeded, and cleaned up the yard because they weren't able to do it at the time. The service took…Read more …
Up to Me: Keeping the Spirit In My Home

Up to Me: Keeping the Spirit In My Home

By Jentri I don’t always get along with my family. I often fight with my siblings and that takes the spirit out of my home. So how can we bring the spirit into our homes and always have it there? I find when my family does the simple things: family scripture study, prayer, family home evening, etc., we feel the spirit.  I also feel the spirit when I help my parents or siblings even when they don’t ask. When I have a good attitude about things like cleaning my room, my family is happier and so…Read more …
What’s On Your To Do List Today?

What’s On Your To Do List Today?

By Kaitlyn Sometimes, the most important things we do each day are never on our “to-do” lists. We might worry about the things that never get done, but past prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley reminded us, “You never know how much good you do.” I, like most of us, enjoy recognition for my work. But I have learned that the Lord will bless us for our efforts whether our others recognize what we have done or not. The service that counts most is usually recognized by God…Read more …

Changed

By Rachel In June, I had the wonderful opportunity of going to Bolivia for a humanitarian trip.  There were 16 youth in our group and three leaders. We stayed for three weeks with only two, two-minute emails home and no other communication with our family or the world. It was pretty much a mini mission. Our main focus was to serve the people in a small village.  We began work on a daycare.  Many mothers in the town must work and they have very few options for childcare.  Our goal was to give them…Read more …
Lost and Found in Service

Lost and Found in Service

By Lincoln I have just returned from a humanitarian trip to Bolivia with a group of youth from all across the country. I spent nearly three weeks in a foreign land, surrounded by foreign people and a foreign language. I was a little homesick at times and a little physically sick from some of the food I ate. Our youth group worked hard in the heat one day and in the pouring rain the next. We did our best to serve the people of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. However, in spite of our efforts,…Read more …
Ask the Missionaries!

Ask the Missionaries!

By Lincoln Have you ever taken the opportunity to speak with your local missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? Whether you are a member nor non-member, the missionaries have a lot to offer you -- from service, to friendship, to sharing their knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many members of our church may see missionaries as only those who are interested in teaching and baptizing new members of the church. While that is true, they are also there to assist members of the church in the areas they are…Read more …
